The term common cold is what is usually used to describe the illness that involves symptoms like runny nose, cough, sore throat, and sneezing. Every year, the common cold affects millions of Nigerians, causing them to miss school and work.
What are the causes of the common cold? 
Common cold refers to a group of symptoms caused by viruses. The virus ‘Rhinoviruses’ causes the most cases of the common cold, and more than 200 different viruses have been identified that cause cold symptoms.

How is it spread?

Colds are usually transmitted from one person to another through physical contact; you can get a cold for example by shaking hands with a person who has a cold. Also droplets containing the virus can be coughed or sneezed by an infected person into the air and inhaled by another. I is also possible that the virus may contaminate a surface such as a doorknob or table.

Keep all Surfaces Clean: Make extra effort to keep all surfaces clean. Work desk, dining table, countertop, basically everywhere you usually lay your hands on.

Use Disposable Items: If a work colleague or a member of your household is infected, you need to stop sharing spoons, plates and cups with them. You can use disposable items temporarily to prevent you from catching the virus.

Throw used Tissues Away: It is now more important than ever to immediately dispose used tissues. This is one of the easiest ways to get common cold, touching tissues or handkerchiefs used by an infected person will surely expose you to the virus.
